JAMB Automates National Matriculation List, Details Emerge

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has automated the process of analyzing the National Matriculation List (NML) as part of its efforts to detect and prevent the use of counterfeit and forged certificates by fraudulent individuals. According to Legit.ng, the NML is an official document that confirms a candidate's admission into any Nigerian tertiary institution through JAMB's Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

In its latest bulletin released on Monday, August 5, JAMB's registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced that starting in 2024, all institutions must upload their matriculation lists and obtain the analysis results before matriculating admitted candidates. Thanks to this automation, it now takes a minimum of five minutes to analyze a matriculation list.

Prof. Oloyede emphasized that JAMB is the only authorized body for processing admissions into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education (COEs). He highlighted the importance of the NML, calling it the most effective tool JAMB has to combat academic fraud. He also warned that JAMB would not recognize any claims of graduation without inclusion on the NML. Consequently, candidates not listed will be automatically barred from NYSC registration, and they will be ineligible for an NYSC discharge certificate or exemption certificate, both of which are essential for graduates over the age of 30. However, foreign candidates are exempted and granted a waiver for NYSC participation.

For proper documentation, Prof. Oloyede also instructed all institutions to invite JAMB to their matriculation ceremonies at least two weeks in advance. He expressed concern that some institutions are not complying with this requirement and have failed to upload their matriculation lists.
